Epic Fail – Epic Recovery

MP)  MP decided to follow in the path of JL and CL and ordered a new pan and paddle for the CBK-100 Cuisinart Bread Machine.   I want to try out CL’s hack on the pizza dough in 19 minutes.   I can’t wait to get my parts.  While shopping at the grocery store this weekend, my daughter longingly looked at me for Cinnamon Raisin bread as we passed through the bread aisle.  I said, we can make that,  and passed on the loaf.  We did buy some raisins,  which is not a normal purchase in our house,  but she likes them and they were in my iBotta grocery hack,  so I went for it.   Sunday afternoon with all the snow flying outside the windows again,  I broke out the backup machine and she eagerly wanted to help me and we made Cinnamon-Raisin Bread  or so I thought.  We were taking turns putting ingredients into the pan. As mixing and rising is happening and mixing and rising,  JL reaches out with a WYD?  So, excited to text back making Cinnamon Raisin Bread…..  I thought for a minute and realized..  uh…    Raisin Bread?  I forgot the Cinnamon.  I guess it was the reason for the Epic Fail.  So, we discussed options,  dump the cinnamon in now..  mid cycle,  after the ‘fruit add beeps’  or mix up some Cinnamon Butter Spread.  Since my daughter isn’t a big fan of honey, we opted for the Cinnamon butter spread recipe with modifications.  Oh! MY Goodness!  What a recovery!  The raisins are added during the prepping session not during the fruit beeps, per the recipe, and those babies were shredded.  I think I found 1 raisin in the bottom of the loaf that appeared to be raisin shaped.  The bottom of the loaf was a little dark,  and I slice my Tall loaves either from top down or bottom up,  to make them more real slice shaped.  Another reason to get the replacement pan for the CBK-100.  So, as the official tester, I picked the bottom of the loaf and it was like toasted Raisin bread with Cinnamon butter on it.  It was delicious.

CL & JL) CL made a perfect loaf of bread in the CBK-100, it’s so nice to have the machine back in working order.  JL made a pan of caramel rolls for the family to enjoy.  Hamburgers were on the menu this weekend and Savory Hamburger buns were mixed by CL and shaped and baked by JL.  They determine they use their bread machine 3X per week.  Anxiously awaiting bananas to ripen to try MJs banana bread going.  MJ reports that if you use mollasses you do not need to wait for your bananas to ripen.

JP)  JP returns from vacation and reads the update from last week and is committed now more than ever to the Bread Machine lifestyle.  Even JP’s wife is on board for the bread machine.  They were seeking the brand/model of the bread machine MP recommended in a previous week.  Cuisinart CBK-100  is the brand and model of the best bread machine we’re aware of.  There is a newer Cuisinart model -200, but it appears to be more expensive and not as high of ratings from the users.  So, for the money, the shape of the pan (long loaf versus tall loaf), being able to pull the paddle out before the baking cycle, the features of the crust settings, delayed mixing and baking, JL and MP are pushing Cuisinart CBK-100 as the bread machine to get you started and to enjoy.  During the Bread Machine meeting, yes, there is an actual meeting where at the end, we discuss bread machine successes and fails.  It’s even been suggested we change the name of the meeting to “The Bread Machine Update”.  JP explains that they are foregoing the bread machine now, because he suddenly remembered how much weight he put on when owning a bread machine in the past.

MJ)  MJ reports that she’s going on a vacation to sunny Aruba and therefore they put the bread machine away and did not use it this week.  She took out her sour dough bread starter and made a loaf of sour dough for a pot luck she went to, in the oven and not in the bread machine.  MJ also reports that they are cleaning out the refrigerator and she placed the crouton container on the table for supper last night.  Her husband asked, “what’s this?”,  she said,  “It’s bread!”.

JL)  JL also reports another friend purchased a CBK100 bread machine and is trying her hand at making Gluten Free Bread in their bread machine.  Hopefully we’ll have some reports of how this is in the future.
